EU supports war in violation of international law in Afghanistan

Press release, TOBIAS PFLÜGER, MEP, NOVEMBER 17, 2005

In the “EU-Afghanistan declaration” published yesterday in Strasbourg by the EU Council and the Afghan government, the EU member states are being asked “to hold on their substantive role in the allocation of military and civilian resources to the NATO-commanded International Security Assistance Force” as well as “the support” of the “Operation Enduring Freedom” guided by the USA.

Tobias Pflüger, coordinator of the Left Fraction (GUE/NGL) in the Subcommittee Security and Defence in the European Parliament declares: “The EU council calls for continued support of military intervention in Afghanistan by military and by civilian means. That is a scandal. The intervention of the EU and EU member states assisting Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan must be stopped immediately. Whoever supports a war in violation of international law him- or herself bears part of the responsibility for this war.

Peace political campaigns against the military interventions in Afghanistan and their civilian and military support by the EU are necessary and will at any time find my active support.
