The 'No' has to be accepted by the European elites - A clear rejection of the militarization of the European Union.

Regarding the No to the Lisbon Treaty in Ireland GUE/NGL German MEP Tobias Pflüger states:

Fortunately the No-Camp in Ireland succeeded. “I greatly welcome the NO to the Lisbon Treaty” announces Tobias Pflüger, “I send my warmest congratulations to Ireland! Congratulations to the voters and to the Campaigners from CAEUC (Campaign Against the EU Constitution - Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty)!"

Regrettably only the people of Ireland had been allowed to vote on the Lisbon Treaty, in all over countries popular vote was denied.

Now this NO has to be accepted by the EU-Elites. As the Lisbon Treaty is only a superficially altered Version of the old EU-Constitutional Treaty, which has been already rejected in France an the Netherlands, it is now time to abandon this Treaty for good.

This EU-Treaty (Lisbon or Constitutional Treaty) is definitely dead. Everyone (the council, the commission, the EU-Governments and the majority in the EU-Parliament), who up till now acted as if the Treaty had been already ratified, has to accept this.

An outstanding topic of the Irish debate was the critic of the militarization of the European Union (EU - military spending, Structured Cooperation, EU/NATO cooperation, solidarity clause, armament commitments ...). The EU-Elite has to finally accept, that there is a strong opposition to the EU’s military politics which is shared by the – still – neutral countries but also far beyond. Therefore: Stop the development of the Union into an military alliance.

The Irish NO creates an altogether new situation in the European Union. The results of the referendum are no catastrophe, like some are claiming now, the referendum offers a chance, it offers the opportunity for a discussions with broad participation of the citizens of the European Union. Thereby the vision of a socially just and peacefully European Union gets an other chance.
